There are three men, and two
of them are mounted on bikes. The third one stands alone at the center with his
one hand on both handlebars. The two leftmost men are wearing sunglasses, while
the rightmost man has his eyes exposed. The two rightmost men are wearing
clothes that are lighter than the third’s, but the rightmost man also has a
darker tuxedo-like suit over his white shirt. He is also wearing a watch. The
bikes are washed out and are the lightest part of the picture, except maybe the
floor, which is patterned with light polka dots on a dark, uneven backdrop.
While
these men are clearly posed for this picture, the way they are presented is
very unique. Each of them carries an attribute that one of the others lacks,
and none of them stand out over the others because of how they are positioned in
the image. This could be a picture that is meant to show that while some people
have certain traits that are similar to others, there is always something that
makes them stand out from the rest, and vice versa. The paleness of the bikes
feels almost deliberate to make the men stand out more, especially when it
comes to the darker colors of their clothing. This picture really emphasizes
the finer details of each individual, and even aesthetic details like the
curtain off to the side manage to become prominent.

I agree with your inference on how each person attributes different qualities. When I saw this picture I felt the same way. It made each of the three men express their personality or what they enjoy subtly.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed reading your analysis, Alex. It is very specific. To support your claim that each person is meant to look like an individual I would acknowledge the fact that Sidebe captured more of people in the moment, which I believe is when they are most vulnerable and true to themselves.
